Askew fashion boards same day

Askew is a creative consultancy and design studio based in New York City.  They build and elevate brands by identifying strategic and conceptual drivers, and creating work that seeks innovation, cultural resonance and thoughtful creativity.

Askew has over 20 years of experience working alongside Fortune 500 and emerging brands across fashion, luxury, music, technology, sports, and culture/lifestyle sectors.

The challenge

Askew– NYC, a brand new customer, contacted us, at 22.30hrs on the Tuesday, asking if we could produce 3 high quality fashion posters mounted on 1/4" white foamcore (24x36in) to be delivered to Four Marketing in London the following day.

Four Marketing is a fashion agency working with brands across all platforms, from wholesale, distribution, public relations, through to full digital and retail experience.

The images had to be of high quality as they would be used for promotional material the very next day.

Our solution

We confirmed that we could meet the deadline, but that we recommended printing straight onto foam board.  Printing directly onto the substrate achieves a better finished result, eliminating any potential ripples or bubbles, as well as being cheaper for the customer.

The final artwork file was transmitted to us from New York at midnight and we supplied a quote in the early hours on the Wednesday morning.  Once the quote had been confirmed, the board was ordered at 08.30hrs on the Wednesday morning, arriving via dedicated courier before noon.

The boards were printed to the highest photographic quality.  With no time for proofs we took photos during production and sent them to Askew via email.

The boards were all delivered to Four Marketing in London EC1 before 16.00hrs the same day.

The results

*   Quick turnaround high quality fashion posters for a brand new customer

*   Directly printed onto the substrate avoiding ripples or bubbles

*   High quality service and production

Christie’s Audrey Hepburn sale

Christie’s is a name and place that speaks of extraordinary art, unparalleled service and expertise, as well as international glamour. Christie’s offers around 350 auctions annually in over 80 categories, including all areas of fine and decorative arts, jewellery, photographs, collectibles, wine, and more. They have a global presence in 46 countries, with 10 salerooms around the world.

The challenge

Park Communications is regarded as Christie’s ‘Gold’ supplier – chosen for the most complex projects. We deliver complicated litho projects with colour consistency, all within schedule.

Following the successful installation of three large format 3m x 2m boards, and three wall vinyls, including two with challenging duotone images, Park was chosen by Christie’s to produce the exterior window vinyls advertising their high profile sale of the personal collection of Audrey Hepburn, taking place in September 2017.

The requirement was to produce full sized window vinyls for four windows at their King Street auction rooms and all six windows at their South Kensington premises. Christie’s were keen to bring glamour to the windows, to match the glamour of the star herself, and having loved Park’s integration of silver with images for the book sale, were keen to use a similar treatment for the Audrey Hepburn vinyls.

In addition, the window vinyls were to be in place for three months.

Our solution

Park was awarded the production on the morning of Friday 7 July; a site survey was undertaken that very afternoon.

Park had to ensure that the materials used would withstand the sun, rain and wind for a period of three months.

We proposed that the job be produced on the PMS 877 silver coloured vinyl, firstly with the images as supplied by Christie’s and secondly following the retouching recommended by the Park retouching team.

The artwork was supplied late Friday evening. Having printed the images as provided, the retouching team provided five alternative treatments. The aim was to allow the richness and glamour of the silver to show through, without detracting from the qualities of the original image. Sample squares were produced as proofs for each image.

One of the images was ‘4 colour’; we ran an Epson as a colour guide and then a sample square which closely matched the Epson. All sample squares were reviewed by the Park Account Director with Christie’s on the following Tuesday morning. Christie’s chose their preferred version for each of the duotone images. We were asked to retouch out some blemishes in one of the duotone images and to add brightness to the skin tone of the 4 colour image. The retouched images were re-proofed the following day.

The vinyls were signed off, printed on the following day in and installed Kings Street on Friday 14 July and in South Kensington on 19 July.

The results

Christie’s were delighted with the finished result:

* Impressive colour consistent boards and wall vinyls

* A very close match to the 4 colour image

* Rich and bright duotone images achieved through 5 different treatments

* Proofs available for review within a tight schedule, enabled by our London location

* All retouching, proofing, printing and installation achieved within a tight five day deadline

Christie’s Einstein and Venice sale

Christie’s is a name and place that speaks of extraordinary art, unparalleled service and expertise, as well as international glamour. Christie’s offers around 350 auctions annually in over 80 categories, including all areas of fine and decorative arts, jewellery, photographs, collectables, wine, and more. They have a global presence in 46 countries, with 10 salerooms around the world.

The challenge

Park Communications is regarded as Christie’s ‘Gold’ supplier – chosen for the most complex projects. We deliver complicated litho projects with colour consistency, all within schedule.

The Head of Production and Head of Creative came to visit the Park facility and were very impressed with our colour management and ability to match imagery across all litho, digital and large format print.

This time, we were asked to produce a fast turnaround requirement for three 3m x 2m boards displaying images, and three wall vinyl’s for a forthcoming books auction.

Two of the images were challenging duotones, where colour management would be critical.

Our solution

Christie’s requested 3mm foamex boards, but we proposed 5mm given the size of the boards.
The four colour image was run to Epson and a sample square run on Foamex. A very close match was achieved.

The duotone images were a bit trickier. The images, one of Einstein and one of Venice, were monochrome and rather dark, Christie’s wanted to add a brightness and richness by incorporating PMS Silver 877. As large format printing equipment works only in 4 colour process, we recommended printing the images in 4 colour black onto a silver vinyl, the silver exactly matching PMS 877.

Sample proofs were run from representative areas of each image. These proofs showed that due to the density of black within the images, the black masked most of the silver.

Our retouching team reviewed the proofs and retouched the image in a manner sympathetic to each piece. The brightness and richness of the silver was allowed to come through, whilst the essence of the image was retained. Each image was retouched using four different treatments to provide Christie’s with a choice.

Proofs were run of each version and Christie’s were delighted. After a face-to-face review with the Park Account Director, they chose a preferred option for each image.

The prints were run the next day and installed in Kings Street the following day.

The whole process took only four days, with files received Tuesday morning, site surveys taking place on Tuesday afternoon, proofs supplied, reviewed and approved on Wednesday, prints run on Thursday and installation taking place on Friday.

The results

* Impressive colour consistent boards and wall vinyls.

* A very close match to the 4 colour image.

* Rich and bright duotone images achieved through four different treatments.

* Proofs produced within a tight schedule, enabled by our London location.

* All retouching, proofing, printing and installation achieved within a tight four day deadline.

Christie’s were delighted with the finished result and, on the day of installation, appointed Park to produce the window displays advertising the high profile Audrey Hepburn sale in their King Street and South Kensington premises.
