Riposte is a smart magazine for women, highly respected for its content, design and production values. Each issue features five ideas, four meetings, three features, two essays and one icon.
They profile bold and fascinating women whose achievements speak for themselves. Their interviews are honest, rather than being full of media trained responses, as the women they feature candidly discuss their successes and failures, their work, their passions and perspectives.
Essays and features cover a broad range of issues including art, design, music, business, innovation, politics, food and travel.
Riposte wanted a magazine packed with amazing women, personal and honest interviews, thought-provoking features and “punch-you-in-the-face visuals”.
They wanted Park to suggest ways to add creativity and intrigue and maintain the very high production values ensure the images had lift, detail and good contrast.
Issue#7 continues with split covers, the first bright yellow cover continues in the text-heavy tradition; the second photographic version is more conventionally ‘news-stand’.
We suggested using a mixture of gloss, matt and uncoated material to increase visual impact and tactility and different weights to add further interest.
A 200# screen and plate profiles specially developed for each of the gloss, matt and uncoated materials were used for the production.
A matt laminate was used on the cover to give a smooth finish and a tactile look-and-feel, together with a UV varnish to highlight and add lift to the wording on the covers.
Proofs were supplied as hi-res Epson proofs on uncoated paper for the cover and uncoated text sections, and coated paper for the coated sections.
Adhering to ISO 12647-2 (2013) colour standard, Park accurately matched the signed-off proofs while Riposte passed on press.
Print production, folding, lamination and binding were completed in-house.
