It’s Nice That believes passionately that creative inspiration is for everyone and champions the most exciting and engaging work online, in print and through their events programme.
It’s Nice That has grown across many platforms and reaches over a million people each month. These include the website which is updated daily, a bi-annual magazine Printed Pages, a summer symposium Here and the monthly Nicer Tuesdays talks series.
Printed Pages is an edit of the most interesting work and features that ‘It’s Nice That’ have published online over the previous six months. Issue 13 is special as it celebrates It’s Nice That’s 10th anniversary.
They wanted to put a smile on the newsstand with the first issue of Printed Pages in 2017, a defiant retort to the unrelenting state of news. They presented a one-word brief to friends and collaborators from across the world: Smile.
This issue includes the responses, 240 pages of inspiring work and engaging articles that feature creatives from around the world.
Park were brought in to contribute to the creativity and to maintain high quality production standards, within strict time and budget constraints. For the SS17 issue they wanted the cover to put a smile across newsstands, using a print quality that would allow the rich pink of Ted Parkers’ illustration to sing.
We proposed that It’s Nice That make a change from their usual embossed cover, to create a stand-out issue. We used a gloss stock with fitted neutral seal both sides and a gloss lamination, so the magazine would stand out from previous issues and the smile would jump out from the page.
We still recommended a number of material types: gloss, uncoated, and a coloured stock to increase visual impact.
White paper dummies, each using a range of different material combinations, were prepared by us to enable It’s Nice That to choose the optimum mix.
Park provided consultation to make the 'rich pink' a reality, we ran different levels of yellow and cyan providing samples of what could work.
A 200# screen, plus image and plate profiles specially developed to achieve the best results on each of the materials, were applied. Special hard drying inks for uncoated materials were used.
Hi-resolution Epson proofs on both uncoated paper and coated material were provided.
Adhering to ISO12647 colour management targets, we accurately matched the signed-off proofs on press.
Print production, folding and binding were completed in-house.
