Phoenix Annual Report 2017

Phoenix Group Holdings has a Premium Listing on the London Stock Exchange and is a member of the FTSE 250 index.

The Group is a closed life assurance fund consolidator that specialises in the management and acquisition of closed life and pension funds, and operates primarily in the United Kingdom.

The challenge

The Annual Report is used by Phoenix Group Holdings as a key marketing tool to communicate their strategy to stakeholders.  Exciting prospects for the future, supported by new appointments to the Board, meant the report had to have high production values and a luxurious look-and-feel to convey their winning strategy.

Our solution

We looked at each element of the production process to see where value could be added and creativity enhanced.  We had to match a previous printer’s colour on the cover without any reference material - working closely with Radley Yeldar we overcame the production difficulties.

Park proposed a soft touch laminate for the cover to add a tactile, luxurious feel.

Radley Yeldar’s design included a fold out immediately after the cover and required that the positioning of the logo on the throw-out exactly matched the position of the logo on the text.

Ideally, Radley Yeldar wanted the throw-out to be flush, but, had it been, the throw-out would have been cut off during the final trim of the book.  Park suggested an alternative, which fell slightly short of the foredge.

A 200# screen and plate profiles specially developed for uncoated materials were used for the production.

Proofing included high resolution Epson’s run to FOGRA standards, scatter proofs and Indigo book proofs x 6.

To maximise colour consistency, Park adhered to ISO12647 colour management targets.  We accurately matched the signed off proofs, while Park’s Colour Manager and Radley Yeldar passed the report on press.

Another production consideration were the slim-line tabs within the artwork.  This required highly accurate folding and trimming.  For this reason, each stage of the finishing process was personally supervised by the Bindery Manager.

All of the print production, folding and binding was completed in-house, while a member of Park production team supervised the lamination, creasing and foil blocking at the outworker.
