JCDecaux decided to produce a photo book displaying their advertising hoardings for Burberry.
They needed the book to reflect the quality of the Burberry brand, but had a budget of only £4,000 for 75 copies. The buyer at JCDecaux turned to us to advise on what could be achieved within this budget and then to deliver this to the highest quality within 5 days.
We recommended that the book be landscape to best display the landscape photography and that the colour theme be black to reflect the Burberry brand.
Mindful of the budget, we established that the book could be case bound, but recommended that the text be PUR bound rather than threadsewn, as this was less expensive. We also recommended that the cover be printed solid black with white out lettering on a white stock, which was a less expensive option than using a coloured black cover material which would then have to be silk screened. PUR binding also allowed the text to be printed digitally, a more cost effective option than printing litho. All three recommendations enabled the customer to afford an anti-scuff laminate to protect the solid coverage on the cover from scratching, and a UV varnish on the cover to highlight the title.
Our repro team amended the tint values to reproduce the black on the cover as a rich dense four colour black. To obtain the very best result, a 200# screen with image and plate profiles specially developed for coated material was applied on the cover.
The job was printed to the ISO12647-2 (2013) colour standard.
