Park Communications acquired by Belgian based Graphius Group

Park Communications Ltd. has been acquired by Graphius Group, the European printing group with operations in Brussels, Antwerp, Ostend and Paris, and with a main production facility and headquarters in Ghent, Brussels. The deal will see Park continue trading under its existing brand, whilst gaining access to additional resources and new services from the Group companies.

Park’s leadership team – Alison Branch, MD and Heath Mason, CEO – will continue in their existing roles, with Denis Geers and Philippe Geers, the grandsons of the Graphius founder, joining the Board. Joris Deckers, Graphius’ UK Sales Director, will join Park’s leadership team.

Graphius Group was founded in 1928 in Ghent (60 km from Lille). It is today best known for its high quality sheet-fed litho printing products and extensive case binding offering. The two companies cite a number of benefits that the acquisition will bring to both companies and their clients, including:

  • increased case-binding capabilities for Park clients, enabling the production of long runs of casebound books
  • greater flexibility and choice around long-run litho productions, including the opportunity for clients of either business to print locally in the UK or Europe
  • economies of scale, most significantly in the ability to purchase paper at the most competitive rates
  • further innovation and investment around sustainable printing driven by both companies’ leadership in this field.

Denis Geers, Graphius CEO, said,

“The acquisition of Park, with its very well established reputation for quality and integrity, is a well-considered move towards becoming a local producer in the UK. Our existing broad UK customer base, the competence of Park’s staff, and its high quality production facilities located where they are in London, convinced us to take this step.”

Heath Mason, Park CEO, said,

“For some years, we have been looking for the right partner to take Park forward for the next 30 years. This is for our employees, our clients and for our suppliers. We have been speaking with Denis and Philippe for nearly three years, and over that time have built a relationship of trust and understanding. Graphius and Park have a very similar culture, which really cares for its stakeholders. Alison and I are very pleased to be part of Graphius Group, and now look forward to taking the business forward under their ownership.”

Park Communications Ltd., whose line-up of modern efficient equipment includes two B1 sized KBA sheetfed litho presses, with a full finishing department including an 18 station PUR binder, and a self-contained digital department, which was recently strengthened by the installation of a B2 Indigo digital press. Typesetting and artworking at the front-end, and mailing and logistics at the back, complete the offering. Park says that it now be able to offer services to other segments of the printing market thanks to this merger. Park is a multi-award winning sustainable printer, and is the current PrintWeek Environmental Printer of the Year (SME) 2022. Its market specialisms are in high-end print for annual reports, auctions and art, magazines, brand advertising and financial services.

For many years Graphius has been present in the UK, its third-largest market. Graphius is a particularly strong player in the high-end printing sector, and its printing and integrated bindery is one of the most important in Europe. Graphius had sales of €100m in 2021.
