Instagram Live: Park & magCulture talk magazine printing during lockdown

In our article last month on the magazines tackling sustainability, we noted that ‘indies mags are ‘uniquely adept at capturing cultural shifts… tackling complex issues with intellect and sensitivity.’

Unsprising, then, that indie titles have proven a resilient and popular media format, even as the majority of brands have gone into hiberanation.

Last week, Park MD Alison Branch joined Jeremy Leslie for the MagCulture Presents broadcast over Intstagram live.

Magazine printing: hands off, where possible

As Alison explains, the early stages of production, such as file checking, can be done from home.

The printing, however, is still relatively labour intensive, requiring a re-think around processes so that staff can work safely whilst observing social distancing measures.

Innovation and continuation on the indie mag scene

Print runs are down, as bricks-and-mortar stores and some distributors have suspended operation.

This has sadly been problematic for some titles; but others have made commendable efforts to keep readers engaged and show cameraderie with industry partners.

One great example is the ‘Clash Cares‘ initiative from Park Clash magazine, intended to:

…through a mixture of video and online content.
