Kinfolk: Creative Magazine Printing by Park

Many magazines mix up their stocks; this one tells a story in paper.

Popular lifestyle magazine Kinfolk approached Park for their thirty-sixth edition. Entitled ‘Movement’, it sets out to celebrate ‘the exceptional individuals using movement as a vehicle for physical prowess, self-expression and social cohesion.’

The magazine uses different papers to mark different sections: opening with a stylish uncoated stock, then springing into brilliant Galerie Gloss for the ‘Movement’ section, with features on dance, music and wildlife photography.

The final section, ‘Directory’, takes a turn to the philosophical. Off-white Redeem, a 100% recycled product made from spent leather spelt, plays host to monochrome photography, essays, and interviews with cultural figures.

Refined creative options lend the cover a certain elegance: tactile, soft-touch laminate, with the title in understated black gloss foiling.

The finished volume is a contemplative journey through photography and intellectual prose, with a book-like weightiness worthy of Kinfolk’s long-standing, global audience of collectors and fans.

Client testimonial

We approached several printers, both in the UK and abroad, about printing Kinfolk. We chose Park because of their clear commitment to quality and their deep understanding of our, sometimes complicated, requirements for the finest printed products.

Independent magazines have always pushed the boundaries of culture. This hasn’t always been to their financial advantage. More often a labour of love than a business, they’re typically side projects alongside somebody’s day job. Sadly, many are too short-lived. But this is also part and parcel of what makes the indie mag. With principles and …

The magazine publishing scene …
