The Basement: sustainable fashion and culture magazine printing
The Basement is a collaborative community and platform centered around youth culture, fashion, music and society. Based in London, the studio works to showcase talent and ideas from young artists, designers and creatives. Though originally focused on fashion, The Basement has since become a multi-channel space, and a movement with over 300,000 members worldwide.
As an environmentally conscious brand, choosing a printer with sustainable credentials was a core concern for The Basement. Having never produced a magazine before, The Basement knew that they needed guidance to help transform their vision into physical reality.
Park was involved in each step of the process and worked with the client to reach the ideal format and size from both an impact and commercial point of view.
We also advised on different materials and finishes to help the magazine to stand out. This included suggesting a mixture of stocks, which would mark the journey between different content at different sections in the magazine. Some elements were given a more stylised, glossy look with Galerie Gloss, whilst other, grittier stories were presented on uncoated, Soporset Offset paper.
The Basement’s design team also visited the Park factory, a great opportunity for them to better understand the printing process, and to collect useful insights ahead of their next issue.
