Reproduction & book printing for Chris Guest
Renowned artist Chris Guest contacted Park to print a self-published collection of his paintings, for general sale. This was the first time Chris had released his work in this format. Our expertise on materials, paper size and finish, was integral to creating a product that befits his outstanding work.
Chris’s work juxtaposes classical techniques with modern themes, using traditional oils to paint heavily-tattooed subjects. Park’s mission was to capture that dichotomy in print.
We suggested the book be printed in 350x200mm, creating a slightly larger than coffee table sized product, that was both cost effective and allowed plenty of white space to frame the artist’s work.
A bright pink cover, brought to life by the use of magenta inks in our four-colour process, is continued through the casebound book. Soft-touch lamination gave the cover a luxurious and alluring finish.
Wibalin 470 Black, a weighty and substantial stock, was chosen for the VIP slip case, while the book’s colour motifs were reinforced by the use of pink metallic foiling.
The process began with Chris supplying us with dummy pages, allowing us to advise on the text stock. Press scatter-proofs were then supplied to the artist, followed by hi-res Epson proofs of colour-critical pages.
We then carefully reproduced Chris’ artwork on our colour-calibrated press, making sure that each of his expressive brushstrokes were accurately depicted.
The customer passed the cover, and first sections of the book on press, before entrusting us to print the remaining pages.
Client testimonial
"Working with Park was great! I wanted to make a book with a real luxury feel, and that's exactly what I've got. Being able to see the book being printed on the press pass was a great experience as well."
