Real Joy: TikTok’s sustainably printed magazine
The marketing team for TikTok, the world’s most popular online video platform, came to Park following a recommendation from PORT magazine.
They were looking to create an impactful printed magazine to showcase and celebrate some of their online stars. This was to be a visually stunning piece, with an emphasis on being an environmentally friendly production.
The magazine was printed on Nautilus Classic, an FSC 100% recycled paper and the dust jacket on Favini Crush, an FSC-certified, eco-friendly paper made using by-products from fruits, corn, and other organic products
The production was made carbon neutral through Park’s partnership with ClimatePartner. This was promoted in the magazines, via a QR code allowing readers to learn about the publisher’s chosen offset scheme.
Refining the specification involved collaboration and advice from Park, and the production of dummies with different stock options.
There were seven different cover versions, each featuring a different artist, which with the larger and unusual size of 344 x 193mm, showcased TikTok’s stars in the most impactful way.
The cover was finished with a soft touch laminate and short dustjackets to give the production a luxurious but contemporary feel.
This project required a fast turnaround, with the TikTok team visiting Park to approve Epson proofs, make final corrections, and press pass within the same day. The magazines were produced and delivered on time to London, Stockholm, Berlin, and Paris.
