New London Quarterly: sustainably printed magazine

Carbon-neutralproduction
100% recycledtext stock
Symbol Freelife Satin cover
Aqueous glosscoating

New London Quarterly is New London Architect (NLA)’s magazine focused on environmental issues affecting the capital.

NLA chose Park for our carbon-neutral credentials and environmentally responsible practices. These include the use of green energy and vegetable-based inks, and the recycling of 99% of our waste, with the remaining 1% being safely burnt to generate carbon-neutral energy.

Two different text stocks were used, both 100% recycled, but with different textures: the coated Revive Silk, and uncoated Revive Offset.

The cover was printed on Symbol Freelife Satin, a coated stock with 40% recycled content.

Instead of a plastic-based laminate, NLA opted to protect the magazine’s cover with an aqueous gloss coating, an eco-friendly option which also enhances the look and feel of the product.

Since Park’s facility is carbon-neutral, the small amount of carbon created during the production process had already been offset. And, by supporting a ClimatePartner wind energy production project in Chile, NLA also offset any emissions resulting from the production and transportation of the magazine’s paper.

Once the copies were ready, Park’s data processing and mailing team sent each magazine in a compostable polybag – a plastic-free and lightweight alternative to standard polywrap.

By mailing in-house, we also avoided any added transportation emissions from sending the magazines to an external mailing house.

This commitment to sustainability was demonstrated to the magazine’s readers via an environmental imprint on the first page, so readers can learn more about ClimatePartner’s carbon offset projects.
