Journal printing for fashion photographer, Dominick Sheldon
When renowned fashion photographer Dominick Sheldon struggled to find a printer that could handle the brief for a journal of his personal work, he came to Park for help.
Sheldon wanted to host his black and white images exploring beauty, identity and culture, on a rough textured stock. This presented a problem: how could you faithfully reproduce the photography on a tactile surface, without compromising the quality of reproduction.
Park worked closely with Sheldon to find the best paper option, running tests to see which stock provided the best balance between tactility and faithful reproduction. Our suggestion of Munken Lynx Rough made for a cost effective and aesthetically pleasing choice.
The black and white images were printed in a four-colour process, retaining detail and contrast, with Park’s colour manager working closely with Sheldon to make adjustments and find the perfect formula. These stunning images were given the space they needed to make an impact, as they were framed by ample white space in this broadsheet sized journal.
Park was honoured to print these photos again in the catalogue for The National Portrait Gallery Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize, for which Sheldon received a nomination in 2020.
