Joost van den Bergh: art gallery catalogue printing
Joost van den Bergh has dealt in art from India and Southeast Asia, as well as other areas such as Tibet and Japan, for over 25 years.
The gallery came to Park to print the catalogue for their recent exhibition, Shrinathji, which showcases Krishna paintings from Nathdwara.
For this catalogue, Park first profiled the client’s images for the coated stock. The designer, Roger Fawcett-Tang, had already worked with Park on a previous project. He had been impressed with our colour management such that, for this production, he approved proceeding to print without first seeing colour proofs.
Roger and Joost came to pass on press but were so pleased with what they saw on the first two sections, that they entrusted Park to print the rest.
The cover was printed on Keaykolour Lipstick 300 gsm. This was then foiled with Kurz Colorit in 925, a medium-blue shade which made for a bold and striking cover.
Two different stocks were chosen for the text pages. The intro was printed on a lightweight Munken Cream, Volume 18 80 gsm, an uncoated stock that makes for an easy read. For the images of the art, we switched to the coated, but still tactile and bulky Symbol Tatami 150 gsm. The semi matt finish of Tatami reduces shine and glare yet still lends superb reproductive values.
The catalogue was thread sewn and bound in-house, and completed in six working days.
