Fine art catalogue printing for Daniel Crouch

4pp wide throwout
Litho & digital printing
4-colour black backgrounds
8pp cover

Daniel Crouch is renowned across the globe as the leading dealer of rare atlases and maps. They recently got in touch to ask Park to print a catalogue for the sale of the Vesconte Maggiolo Planisphere of 1531, a monumental portolan chart of the known world.

This technically challenging brief presented an obvious problem: how do you accurately convey both the size and detail of such a breathtaking piece of work?

Park suggested a four-page wide throwout to do justice to the scale of the chart. Rich, four colour black backgrounds helped to highlight the vibrant details of the piece, contrasting with the glittering golds and silvers on the map.

The throwout and cover were printed using lithography, while the rest of the catalogue was produced digitally, offering a cost effective solution for the customer.

For many printers, the use of separate presses might lead to inconsistencies, however our colour management process made sure that there was accuracy throughout the catalogue. We also supplied Daniel Crouch with digitally printed book proofs, to ensure colour accuracy before printing.

An 8pp cover gave the catalogue a substantial feel, while an anti-scuff laminate was added to the cover for protection. Galerie Matt 170gsm was chosen for the 62pp text, adding a luxurious and substantial feel to the finished product.
