Eckersley O’Callaghan: engineering portfolio brochure printing
Eckersley O’Callaghan, an award-winning engineering company, wanted to produce a portfolio piece for their Advanced Engineering, Material and Technologies Group.
This was a one-off production of 1,000 copies, to be presented at industry events to showcase their past works.
Park worked with TypeTwo studio which designed the brochure alongside Eckersley O’Callaghan. The client wanted to explore including some innovative and unusual elements in the brochure, turning the production into an engineering challenge in print.
Chapter Start Pages
Glass Engineering is a core aspect of Eckersley O’Callaghan’s business. Their vision was for the brochure’s chapter starting pages to mimic glass surfaces, whilst incorporating the Eckersley’s orange brand colour.
Park answered the brief by setting the translucent pages against orange backgrounds. The type was overprinted in HP Indigo Electroink with white underpinning, to ensure that it was clearly visible and bold on the transparent sheet.
The eight pages beginning each chapter fall short from the fore-edge of the book, allowing the reader to easily find the start of each chapter.
Case study sections
The brochure contains eight case study sections which also fall short head to foot. This leaves the chapter header visible at the top of each section as the reader turns the pages, and also makes it easier to find the start point of each section.
The case study sections were all printed on a gloss stock with a gloss coating, resulting in a ‘shine’ effect which contrasts and stands out against the uncoated text.

The book also includes a throw-out, which folds away to present a 6pp timeline spread.
This combination of processes may have presented a challenge for many printers, but we took it in our stride.
The productions were colour managed across both Park’s litho and digital printing platforms. Printing to ISO 12647 standards, we ensured perfect matches with the client’s corporate colours of grey and orange.
