Disegno is an industry renowned quarterly magazine dedicated to in-depth and independent reporting on architecture, design and fashion. Containing unique and insightful content, the magazine aims to generate debate, inform, entertain and inspire, bringing thoughtful analysis of current events to a design-interested audience.
Disegno underwent a redesign for issue 10, focusing on creating a pleasurable, engaging, informative and stimulating reading experience. They concentrated on type, leading, and weights and as a result, text is often favoured over images as it cascades over photographs that have been subdued by a neutralising wash.
Disegno sought Park’s advice on enhancing the production values and creating a truly differentiated look and feel. We have continued this ethos with Issue 12.
Park suggested using three different paper stocks, each with a different surface, gloss, uncoated and vellum to increase visual impact and tactility.
Our suggested stocks were scatterproofed to identify the screen ruling and ink type that would achieve the very best reproduction on each of the stocks.
Final artwork was proofed using hi-resolution Epson proofs on uncoated paper for the uncoated material sections, and coated paper for the coated material sections and for the cover.
A 200# screen, and image and plate profiles specifically developed for the chosen stocks were applied to achieve the best possible reproduction.
Adhering to ISO 12647-2 (2013) colour standard, Park accurately matched the signed-off proofs while the customer passed on press, guided technically by our Account Director.
We worked closely with the foiling house to identify a foil which would adhere with only a ‘kiss’ to the paper and avoid any embossing and indents to adverts on the inside front cover.
Print production, was completed in-house, while a member of the Park production team supervised the foiling of the cover and thread sewing at the respective outworkers.
